We're pleased to announce that applications for the 2012 Clarion Workshop are now officially open, and will remain open until March 1, 2012. If you've been thinking about applying, now's the time to start working on your submission story, whether you're writing one from scratch or polishing something you've already written. We've got a wonderful faculty waiting in the wings, featuring sf, fantasy and mystery writer Jeffrey Ford, urban fantasy and comic book writer Marjorie Liu, celebrated short-story writer and Clarion alumnus Ted Chiang, best-selling sf writer Walter Jon Williams, award-winning YA fantasy writer Holly Black and well-known fantasy novelist Cassandra Clare. Thanks to Clarion's friends and supporters and this year's outstanding Write-a-Thon fundraiser, there is scholarship money for those who need it. In addition to general scholarships, there are special grants for students of color, students who are affiliated with Michigan State University, and students who are affiliated with UCSD. • Clarion is about to admit another incredible class of students. We had a large number of applicants for Clarion 2011, 18 of whom were admitted. We're sure the trend will continue, yielding another strong, talented group for 2012. We look forward to another great year.


• Due to the economic downturn, incoming Clarion students have the greatest need for scholarships in Clarion's history. It's harder than ever for young writers to make ends meet.
